Hey there, it's Jim here with a short story about Monkey Hill

Glad you dropped by here.

Here's a little bit about Monkey hill and the resident monkeys.

Monkey Hill, also known as Toh Sae Hill, is located in Phuket Town and is one of the highest hills in the area. It is home to a few TV and radio stations and is a popular recreation spot where locals jog daily. The hill is covered with immense red and white antennas and can be easily seen but not as easy to reach. The road climbing to it is opposite of provincial hall, past the Phuket prison. Most of it can be quickly done on a motorbike, but you will need to park your bike and continue on foot for.7 km until the very top of the hill.

The hill gets its name from the troupe of macaques that can be found munching away on fruit. Once your bike is parked, start walking, and they are all here, all sitting in the middle of the road, waiting for tourists to bring them some fruits or anything edible. However, it’s important to note that monkeys are unpredictable and can be dangerous. You should never feed them by hand, and accidents are not unusual. It’s also important to follow some basic rules: don’t leave anything hanging out of your pockets or bags, especially cookies or other food items.

At the top of Phuket Monkey Hill, you can see some nice bird views between the bushes. Another excellent point to see monkeys in their happy little life is even easier to find: drive to Koh Sirey, this not-so-well-known island on the east of Phuket Town. Before reaching the island, the municipality was kind enough to place a dozen cute little green signs on each side of the road. Parking is easy, and monkeys are all around.

Phuket has many kinds of monkeys, but the most common are macaques. Visitors in Phuket are most likely to encounter a monkey (or many) during their stay in Thailand. Monkey Hill, also known as Toh Sae Hill, is a major tourist attraction where you can see monkeys, free from chains, doing their thing. It is located in the old town of Phuket which is frequently visited by travelers and tourists who want to experience the authentic Thai culture and heritage.

The hill opens for visitors around 7 in the morning and remains open till 10 at night. However, vehicles are not permitted between 7 am to 8 am and in the evening from 4 pm to 7 pm. If you are staying in the old town of Phuket, you can easily get there on foot as it is just outside of the old town. However, if you are coming from a far-off place, you must take a bus or private taxi.

At the entrance of the Monkey Hill, you will spot a big pink signboard with two golden monkeys on it. From here, you can walk upwards toward the top of the hill. The walk is about 4 km but we would suggest you take a taxi or tuk-tuk. You can easily find them at the base that will take you to the top of the hill. There are hardly any vendors on the top, so if you wish to feed the monkeys, you will have to carry your own eatables. You can also buy from the shops at base before heading to the hilltop.

It’s important to note that monkeys are unpredictable and can be dangerous. You should never feed them by hand, and accidents are not unusual. It’s also important to follow some basic rules: don’t leave anything hanging out of your pockets or bags, especially cookies or other food items.

There are many other spots in Phuket and I'll cover those later on too.
